saigon om YIN STYLE
You may have noticed that there are many styles of yin yoga. Some allow you to use props, some don’t. Some focus on physical aspects and some both physical and emotional. Some bring in meridians and some don’t. Yin yoga originally was created to balance the Yang style practices. Along with Qi Gong, acupressure and acupuncture, Yin yoga falls under the holistic Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) philosophy. Rooted in a holistic and inclusive approach, Hang practices both Qi Gong and acupressure so naturally she’ll be bringing in meridians and emotional aspects, props, along with physiological awareness into the course.
BOOKS
There are many yin yoga books as you already know. Most of the poses come from Paul Grilley, the founder of modernized Yin. We’ve included his e-book of here for you, as a bonus. You are welcome to download/print it for your personal use. Yin Yoga Principles and Practices. Most of this will be in our manual at the training, plus our experience with TCM.
PREPARATION BEFORE THE COURSE
We encourage you to attend at least 10 yin yoga classes and keep a journal (see below for template) with any teacher in the area before we meet in September. If you’re not able to attend in-person classes, you’re welcome to join us in our virtual studio from the comfort of your home. We suggest that you follow along to 5’ish virtual classes (see below) with us so that you are familiar with our teaching style. This will help you to understand the theory aspect at the in-person course in September.

WHAT TO BRING
Please bring along your lovely smile and a beginner’s heart.
We’ll be sitting on the floor on a yoga mat and blocks for the lecture parts of the training. The studio will have plenty of yoga mats and blocks for us to use. Bring along anything else you think you might need to help you feel comfortable. There are several chairsand stability balls in the studio for you to use as well, if sitting on the floor isn’t comfortable.
A notebook and pens. We'll provide a manual.
Nut-free lunch and snacks. There’s a medium-sized frigde at the studio if you need to refrigerate your food. Or purchase your own lunch nearby. There are a handful of shops in the area, including a Food Basics, Maki Sushi, Domino’s Pizza, Pita Pit, Tim Hortons.
Water bottle. The studio has Brita filtered water.
Please wear comfortable exercise attire as we’ll be moving around quite a bit.
A thermos for tea/coffee. We’ll have a kettle and plenty of herbal tea to keep your kidneys warm.
Indoors runners or slippers. The studio has a no outdoor shoes policy. The rubber flooring makes it hard to keep the floor 100% clean so we don’t recommend wearing your only socks.
WHAT TO WEAR
Please wear comfortable yoga/gym clothes that cover your knees and torso, as we'll be moving around quite a bit. Feel free to layer up and bring a small blanket if you tend to get cold easily during lecture time. Keep in mind it’ll be mid-September when we meet.
