What is Acupressure

I love how different healing modalities all link together in one way or another. This means that there’s a healing modality for everyone out there. And that’s great news. For example, the practice of Qi Gong and Tai Chi, gentle movement with breath, is connected to acupuncture and acupressure, all based on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) of meridian theories and the study of Taoism - a holistic approach to health, life and everything under the moon.

In addition to practicing and teaching Qi Gong and Yang-style Tai Chi, I also practice and offer acupressure sessions, normally done on the massage table for comfort.

What is Acupressure?

Acupressure uses gentle yet deep finger pressure on specific acu-points and verbal Body Focusing techniques, to help release tension, balance the "Qi" or vital energy, and improve vitality.  Acupressure is essentially a method of sending a signal to the body to “turn on” its own self-healing or regulatory mechanisms. Normally, Qi circulates through natural pathways in the body called meridians. Blockage of this flow or an imbalance in Yin and Yang can cause illness and pain. Acupressure helps to correct functional imbalances and restore the flow thus returning the body to a more natural state of well-being at the end of each session.

In the method that I practice, there's generally a “local point” in a tense area is held together with related “distal points” which, though distant from the tense area, help it to release because of functional and energetic relationships. You'll be lying face up on a massage table and a blanket over you the entire time.

Acupressure has been a part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) for more than 2000 years, and the fact that it is still in use today is a testimony to its effectiveness in the treatment of illness and pain.

Acupressure is an effective form of stimulation used to help relax the muscles. If done regularly, this method of self-massage can sustain improvement and minimize recurrence of symptoms. Be patient and consistent when practicing acupressure on them.

It is recommended that you consult with your physician before receiving acupressure.
