Digital Bell of Mindfulness

Thich Nhat Hanh Bell of Mindfulness

The bell is a tool, a “bell of mindfulness” that reminds us to be in the present moment.

When the bell is invited, we stop whatever we are doing and relax and become aware of our breathing. We stay still and silent until the sound goes away. By stopping to breathe and restore our calm and our peace we become free and restore our mindfulness.

The sound of the bell gives us an opportunity to come back to our breath and dwell in the present moment. On hearing the sound of the bell, we concentrate for at least three breaths. If desired, the following gathas can help us in this practice:

Listen, listen, this wonderful sound
Brings me back to my true self.

or

Listen, listen, this wonderful sound
Brings me back to my true home

For our daily work on our laptops, Hang and I installed a digital bell of mindfulness app. It can be set to be invited every 15, 30, 60 minutes. It's a wonderful reminder for us to come back to our breath, to bring our min back to our body, even when writing emails.

Enjoy finding moments of peacefulness and calm throughout your day :-)

With Joy,
Sarah
